{"id":47,"date":"2010-11-30T06:52:05","date_gmt":"2010-11-30T06:52:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mrhebrew.com\/?p=47"},"modified":"2010-11-30T07:03:03","modified_gmt":"2010-11-30T07:03:03","slug":"that-whole-nazirite-thing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mrhebrew.com\/?p=47","title":{"rendered":"That whole &#8220;Nazirite&#8221; thing"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_52\" style=\"width: 169px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/Samson_Nazirite.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-52\" class=\"size-full wp-image-52\" title=\"Samson_Nazirite\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/Samson_Nazirite.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"159\" height=\"155\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-52\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Samson the Nazirite<\/p><\/div>\n<p>A quick word search on &#8220;Nazirite[s]&#8221; show only the following:<br \/>\nNum 6:2-21 &#8211; used at least 10 times<br \/>\nJudges 13:5,7 and 16:17 (Samson)<br \/>\nAmos 2:11-12<\/p>\n<p>This made me wonder if Numbers 6 was created primarily to explain Judges 13.\u00a0 I find it odd that it&#8217;s not mentioned more.<\/p>\n<p>Even  Numbers 6:2 implies familiarity with this vow &#8220;If anyone, man or woman,  explicitly utters a nazirite&#8217;s vow&#8230;&#8221; then it goes on to explain what  they shall and shall not do.\u00a0 But it begins with the assumption that  everybody knows what a nazirite vow is.\u00a0 It doesn&#8217;t say that a person  should take this vow, or even why a person should take this vow, it just  assumes that some people do, and then there are rules to be followed.  JSB footnote in Numbers describes Samson as a &#8220;lifetime Nazirite&#8221; (The Jewish Study Bible  capitalizes the word in the side notes but not in scripture translation).<\/p>\n<p>Amos 2:11-12 says this:<br \/>\n11  And I raised up of your sons for prophets, and of your young men for  Nazirites.
